The Spirit of Tony Turner Award

The Spirit of Tony Turner Award

The Spirit of Tony Turner Award (the “SofTTie“) was originated by Chris White, Ottawa singer-songwriter, broadcaster, festival organizer and music enthusiast. It is presented to an individual who has devoted his or her time and talent to creating opportunities for Ottawa musicians, and is named for Tony Turner, who is just such a person.

The new SofTTie winner is accessibility activist Shelley Ann Morris, who will receive the award at the Spirit of Tony Turner Award Concert on November 17 at 7:30 pm at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall. Tickets $20 at rasputins.org.

SofTTie award recipients receive an individual take-home trophy, and their names are added to a plaque designed by Mark Evenchick and crafted by luthier Andy Bounsall.  The plaque is on display permanently at Metro Music, 695 Bank Street in the Glebe.

Previous winners are Greg Kelly, Pat Moore and Bob Nesbitt.
